THE Lunar Lander 4

For the brave. The bold. The explorers, the tinkerers, the dreamers chasing stars—and anyone who loves a good countdown. The Limited Edition Lunar Lander 4 has fired up the boosters and is prepped for launch. This fixed blade’s ready to orbit your pocket, tackle the unknown, and look dang good doing it. Mission control? We’re go for adventure.

What makes this so special? You see, these limited edition Lander scales are an exact replica of the topography of Earth's Moon. In collaboration with Chroma Scales, we used a 3D scan of the Moon created from orbiting NASA satellites and carefully pulled different locations for the scale prints. Each of these prints are a unique part of the Moon, and no two are the same. We serialized them with a countdown on the blade and tied a Lunar Lander on the lanyard.

We'll shoot straight with you-- each time we put these up for sale, they sold out in less than a day. For this round we thought about doing more (200 limited editions! 500!) but since each one is unique and requires so much time, it just wasn't feasible. We realize some of you will miss out, and we're sorry, so if you're serious about getting one we suggest you don't sit on this.

To the Moon, Amigos!

-Limited pieces made.
-Serialized from -01:40 to -00:01-- a countdown timer to lift off
-Includes Lander 4 Moondust Drop Point knife with unique scales, and Lunar Lander bead.
-3D printed in full color -- the scales are a type of tough polymer
-Designed in Vancouver, Washington by the ever-talented Randall West of Chroma Scales.

Chroma Scales are designed and developed by Randall, who is a Knafs fan that turned into a friend and amazing part of the knife community. He approached Ben at a trade show, the two hit it off, then Ben had the chance to visit Randall at his day job in Washington state and learn how these scales are made. Here’s how it works: Randall engineers expensive 3d printers (they cost $200K+) at HP by day. Then he prints Knafs scales on these wild, expensive printers by night. It’s an amazing symbiosis.

And the printers! Essentially, they take powder-based polymer and lay it down on a bed. UV light then shines on the polymer, hardening it and colorizing it, layer by layer, in an additive manufacturing process. Through magic and lasers and magic lasers, the powder is shaped and colored until you're launched onto the Moon.

This is what we love about the Knafs industry more than anything: there are really cool, kind people who are willing to share their smarts with others. Sure, we make some money together on our respective projects, but it’s more than that. Ben genuinely enjoyed chatting with Randall and learning from him. He’s a good dude. He makes great products. We love collaborating with him.
