Designed in Utah and manufactured in Michigan, the Lulu is Knafs first ever Made in the USA fixed blade knife.
When we say USA Made, we mean it. The knife and metal were both manufactured on American soil.
The crown jewel of the Lulu is its CPM Magnacut blade. This steel is made in the USA and is the brainchild of mad steel scientist, Larrin Thomas. It is one of the best balanced stainless steels out there and that is why we chose it for the Lulu. Seriously this stuff rocks!
UPDATE
The Lulu has been updated . . . slightly. Look we really love the Raw MagnaCut finish. There was beauty in all its imperfections but there were problems. Raw rolled steel is not uniform and it was wreaking havoc on our quality control. So we changed it to a stonewash finish. Ultimately this allows us to create a more consistent and better product for you folks. It is still the same Lulu you have come to know and love, just with a "fresh coat of paint."
So while there are a few changes, the important things stayed the same: still MangnaCut, still USA made, and still the same Lulu that's travelled the world on adventure.
A few notes:
- The new blade is ever so slightly thicker than the old one (by about .5mm) and the scandi grind is slightly taller.
- This also means that the old and new Lulu thermoplastic sheaths are not cross compatible. The Lazy 3 leather sheath however, works just fine with either.
And for the kicker, Ben himself flew all the way to the Colombian Amazon to put the Lulu through its paces. The details are on the blog, but let's just say she didn't disappoint.
Who is Lulu? That's tough to say definitively, but this Lulu is named after a favorite mountain pass in Southern Montana. Who was that pass named after? That's a different story for another time.
